Sensory Integration

Sensory Integration is the process by which the brain organizes and interprets sensory information from the environment and the body to respond appropriately. It involves the coordination of various sensory systems, including touch, vision, hearing, proprioception (body awareness), and vestibular (balance and movement). When sensory integration functions properly, individuals can process and react to stimuli efficiently, supporting everyday activities such as movement, learning, and social interactions. However, difficulties in sensory processing can lead to challenges like hypersensitivity, poor coordination, or difficulty concentrating. Sensory Integration Therapy, often used for individuals with autism, ADHD, or sensory processing disorders, helps improve the brain's ability to interpret and respond to sensory input effectively, leading to better motor skills, focus, and emotional regulation.
